I had a not-so-planned trip to Singapore. I say not-so-planned because this was something I was hoping to not have to do, but ultimately because of circumstances, I needed to do in the end. Much as I want to visit Singapore, I wasn’t exactly looking forward to the journey since it is a very long flight from one side of the world to the other. As usual, I took a morning the flight this time with Lufthansa. There is a layover at Frankfurt for a few hours before proceeding to Singapore. The flight was exhausting because I could never sleep on flights. I could probably catch a few minutes of sleep here and there but nothing like one continuous sleep.

This left me exhausted by the time I reached Singapore. Fortunately, the airport was easy to navigate and I was out very quickly. For long time readers, you would know that I am very familiar with Singapore and for a while it was my second home. This is some sort of a homecoming for me. I still knew my way around, down to the buses which I would need to take to get to places. Taking the train to downtown, I can see that a lot has also changed. There are a lot of new structures now, but before I go into that, I needed to check in to my accommodations first.

Now, Singapore isn’t exactly the destination for budget travelers. Sure there will be budget options but the quality can vary widely. I ended up picking this place called K Hotel 14 in the Geylang area. I am very familiar with this area because I used to live there. However, the name K Hotel is new to me. I don’t think it was there when I was still a resident here. Anyway, I wasn’t really expecting too much from this place.

I was given a room in the seventh floor, fortunately, they had a lift. The hotel isn’t exactly very high class. In fact calling it a hotel might stretching it but it has a bed and a private bathroom which is all I was asking for. As you can see from the photos, the room was tiny. They also managed to squeeze in a private bathroom in there as well. It was so small that the bathroom door is the sliding type, which also fell apart because it wasn’t installed properly. The room had air-conditioning which was a godsend in the humid tropical weather of Singapore.

I knew I get what I paid for so I really shouldn’t complain much. This is Singapore and this is what my money can me. I actually didn’t mind the tiny room. However, the lift broke down from the second day to the end of my stay and I had to walk up and down seven floors everyday, which after a whole day of walking isn’t exactly what you want to be doing. I would walk down the stairs to get out of the hotel and I would already be sweating by the time I got out. Apologies were given me but only after intense complaining from my part. Apart from the lift issue, there wasn’t really much to complain about for me. I got what I paid for so I shouldn’t really complain.
