My visit to the town of Werfen wasn’t exactly expected to be a whole day affair. In fact, I think I was done by lunch time. I only had the Sound of Music film location to visit. The castle was closed for the winter. The ice caves were also not open to visitors. While I regret not being able to visit those places, I knew that there wasn’t much I can do. I didn’t have much plans for the rest of the day, so I just took my time having lunch in Werfen before heading to the train station. There was still some time before the train for Salzburg arrived so I still needed to wait there.
By the time I arrived in Salzburg it was already late afternoon. I only randomly walked here since I don’t have plans before starting to look for dinner again. This was going to be my last night in Salzburg as I would be flying out the next day. I didn’t really crave for any of the local food but I saw this place which is named Sternbrau which serves dinner. I guess it was okay to have one last helping of schnitzel before I leave. I know this isn’t the most complex of dishes but I think it is one of those easy to eat and comforting of foods.
What made me choose this place over the others was that they serve single servings of the Salzburger Nockerl. This is one of the signature food that you can have here in Salzburg. As you can see, this is a dessert. It is a souffle turned into a meringue. Of all the places I have seen in Salzburg, most of them serve this in threes. The three peaks are supposed to represent the hills around Salzburg. That is nice and all but that doesn’t do me any good since I won’t be able to eat all three mountains of Salzburger Nockerl. Fortunately, Sternbrau understands this problem and they serve then in single peaks. As a dessert, it was okay. It is very light and now that I think about it, because it is that light, I think it is possible for someone to eat all three. I think it was a great final meal at the elegant city of Salzburg. I know there is so much to see here apart from what I visited. Perhaps the summer might be a better time to go.
