Golden Hall at the Hohensalzburg Fortress

I was going through the Hohensalzburg Fortress at a fairly brisk pace. I know that it was late but I believe I have enough time to go through at least the most important places of the fortress. It is one of the largest castles in the world so who knows if I really can make it in time. I still had time to watch an audio visual presentation of the history of Hohensalzburg which, of course, I don’t remember a single thing about. The fortress itself is quite old having been built in the year 1077 but it was continually expanded over the years. The main purpose was to provide shelter to the archbishop in case there was a danger to him.

In the third floor of the fortress there was an obviously impressive hall. It looked nothing like the rest of the interior of the fortress and it was obvious that this was one of the important places here in the fortress. As you can see, the Golden Hall is so named because it is richly decorated. The ceiling looks like little stars against the night sky. This it not unlike the castles of actual kings and emperors of old. This was obviously done to give a little comfort to the archbishop in case he needed to seek shelter here.
