The historic city center of Salzburg is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. Among these many structures included in the listing is the the Salzburg Residenz. It is one of the major structures to see in the city of Salzburg and one of the easiest to access once in the city center. I arrived in Salzburg at noon and after a quick lunch at the Christmas market I was on my way. The Salzburg Residenz is one of the structures around the Christmas market squares and I was glad to see that it is open for visits. Even better, photographs are allowed here, unlike the Hofburg Innsbruck.
While I have been to various palaces in Europe, each of them tend to have their own style. I am no designer who can identify the individual styles that are employed here but just a mere tourist taking photos of whatever can be seen here. Upon entry into the Salzburg Residenz one would be greeted with the largest halls in the entire building. Like a lot of palaces in the Europe, the ceiling is not bare but it is decorated with paintings. There is a large central painting and there are two smaller ones on both ends of the hall. I thought that it was very attractive and certainly a great start to the visit. There are audio guides to borrow here in the museum so visitors can understand what they are seeing. Me, being the good tourist, borrowed the audio guide but now, I don’t remember a single thing that was said in the guide.
