Triumphal Arch at Innsbruck

Triumphal Arch at Innsbruck

As you can see from the photos, I was trying to make my way through the city of Innsbruck on my way to the hotel where I would be staying in. I know I shouldn’t really spending too much time taking photos on my way but I think that I was already walking past these places, I might as well take photos of them. I can see that Innsbruck is a very well kept city. It is the fifth largest city in Austria. From its location, I can see why people would like to stay here. I had to pry my eyes away from the snow capped mountains to get myself moving. Once in a while there will be a break in the buildings and I would see the neighboring mountains again, this makes me want to be able to live in a place like this.

Going to the hotel where I would be staying at is relatively straightforward. I basically just need to head to the river. It also happens to be near where the old town is. I will definitely visit the old town but only after I drop my bags there. Although what I have been seeing is relatively modern, there is a structure I ran into which looks old. The Triumphpforte is a triumphal arch built along the busy Maria Theresein Street. Although it is a Roman style triumphal arch, it was actually built in the 1700s. This was commissioned by the Empress Maria Therese in celebration of his son’s wedding. Unfortunately, it was during the multi-day celebrations that her husband the emperor passed away. Because of this, one side of the arch has wedding motifs, while the other side has mourning motifs.
