It seems that we finally reached the end of our tour of the Salzwelten Hallstatt. The tour is supposedly two kilometers long but that is just a fraction of the tens of kilometers total tunnel length of the salt mine. We also went down at least two levels via miner’s slide. This means that we were quite deep inside the mountain. While I was going through the tour, I felt that it wasn’t that great. I thought that we were quickly being moved to the next place and I didn’t get to take that many photos. A lot of times, we were staying in a place because we needed to watch a video of some topic. I will have to concede that the topics were actually quite interesting to me.
Ultimately, there were four videos we watched and while it might be underwhelming at first. I think now that I think about it, the tour was actually not that bad. There were geology lessons which were interesting to me. The archeology videos were already surprisingly good. It is a shame that the tour essentially boiled down to watching four videos. But it is a salt mine and it is hard to make something like that interesting. Our tour guide led us to this long vehicle where visitors will sit in. This will bring visitors back outside.
The train is basically several benches strung together. Passengers sit with the legs on both sides of the bench. The driver sits in front but curiously faces the back of the train. I know we walked two kilometers to get here and fortunately, we don’t have to walk two kilometers to get back out. Additionally, the train can also climb inclines so we won’t have to walk up that much. The tunnel itsef was very narrow, and just enough to fit the train. In fact, I worry that people tall enough might hit their head on the ceiling because the tunnel was that small.
