View of the Hallstatter See from Hallstatt

The village of Hallstatt was probably one of the prettiest views that I have ever seen. The main village sits at the edge of the Hallstatter See, an alpine lake surrounded by multiple mountains. It was winter when I visited so it wasn’t the best time to see the village, however, winter also has its own charm that not a lot of tourists get to see. It was still early in the morning and it was just starting to get brighter outside although the sky is clear, the sun is still behind the mountains and I don’t think it would be visible from the village yet. Even if it were, it would be so low in the sky that I would just get back light all over the place.

The best view point for Hallstatt is at the end of the village opposite the bus station. It only takes around twenty minutes to get there. I took some time to have a look at what was beyond the view point and saw that it is basically a residential area. I can see how annoying it can be to have strangers constantly around your house which explains the disdain the locals have for tourists. Further on, I got to see the other end of the Hallstatter See. It is a rather long lake and I don’t think it is realistic to walk there. I also noticed that there are parking slots here which I believe are for the locals. There a single street here in Hallstatt and there are not a lot of places to park you car in. If you live here, you would have to walk out of the village to get your car. Not exactly very convenient but this is how you make do with limited space.
