The village of Hallstatt is very small and it can be traversed from one end to another in twenty minutes. I managed to find my accommodation for the night Gasthof Simony Hallstatt, which happens to be at the village square. I had some reservations about the location of the guesthouse right at the square and I worried that it might get noisy at night but my fears were unfounded. Gasthof Simony Hallstatt is an old structure dating back to the time of salt mining. It was already an inn since 1882 so I would think that they know a thing or two about inn keeping.
The entire structure oozes with charm and I thought that I was lucky that I managed to find this place. I originally didn’t consider staying here since I couldn’t find a place which was affordable but this suddenly popped and I quickly booked it. The fact that I supposedly didn’t have a lake view was a bit disappointing but hey, I have a room! I was then very pleasantly surprised to know that my room, albeit small, actually has a view of the lake! By this time, the day was ending and it was getting dark but a view is a view. I would be here for two nights and I hopefully would be able to appreciate the beauty of the Hallstatter See from my own room.
The bedroom was actually very warm which was perfect for this winter. I thought that these old structures would be all drafty but it was actually very nice. My room actually has access to a small terrace where I could presumably set a chair and just admire the wonderful scenery. I can see that the ground floor has a garden which extends all the way to the lake. I can imagine that this would be great in the summer. Who knows, I might get lucky and have nice weather during my stay here in Hallstatt. I already got a little lucky that afternoon since the sky started to clear just as I arrived at the Hallstatt bus terminal.
