I hurriedly bought some dried tea from the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. It felt very touristy because the owner was very pushy but I just wanted to get my tea and I resisted efforts to keep adding stuff until he gave up. I am pretty sure that I didn’t get as good a deal as he might let on but no matter. I head back to the hotel to drop off my haul and immediately head back out for dinner. This time I have a better idea of where to go. The previous night I was in the same area and I saw that there were several eating places here. I thought it was affordable there so I looked for a different place this time.

I settled on this place called Baran Et Mangal. Like most of the places here, it is another kebab place. It is a miracle how these shops survive despite being set up practically side by side each other. Baran Et Mangal is more modest shop compared to the one I went to the previous night. There were still a lot of people here and I was surprised that I was still able to get a seat. The thing with these types of places is that you need to be here with groups of people. It is a shame that I can’t order as many as I want since there was only one of me. I wanted to try as many as I can but I can’t possibly order five different types of food.

I thought that since it was already my last night here, I should go and treat myself for a change. I got the usual kebab which honestly isn’t pretty much the same everywhere. I did get myself an appetizer selection which was good since I would be able to get to try all sorts of stuff. I was glad they have this or I would have gone home having only eaten kebab the whole time. Not that it is a bad thing. The appetizer selection had muhammara which is that brown paste like thing. There was babaganoush which is that salad looking thing on the right. Something with yoghurt in the middle. There was also hummus among others. Some of the selection was good while the others were only okay. I was still happy that I had this.
