Cruising on the Bosphorus Strait

I decided that I would just take the rest of the day slow. I don’t really have anything planned until I passed by the Eminonu ferry terminal. This terminal can connect you to various points along the historic Bosphorus strait. I believe the ferry is headed to Kadikoy but for me it didn’t really matter where the ferry was headed to since I just wanted to be able to cruise on the strait. I planned to just take the ferry to wherever it takes me and then head straight back. There are surprisingly a lot of people on the ferry with me. Most of them were locals and it seems that this really is a popular mode of transportation.

While the city of Istanbul has an extensive metro system, it is still quite nice to be able to ride on a boat and just relax as it takes you to your destination. I managed to get a good spot on the boat and I was able to see a few important sites along the way. Some of them I have already visited the previous days. The ferry passes by the old Istanbul district and I can see the Hagia Sophia Mosque and the Blue Mosque which are both UNESCO World Heritage sites. You can also see the Topkapi Palace from here. I got a better appreciation of these sites and its relationship with the Bosphorus Strait. Funny how just a simple ferry ride can give you a better idea of these things.
