Walking Around Cumalikizik Village

The village of Cumalikizik is a UNESCO World Heritage site in the outskirts of the city of Bursa. It is known as an Ottoman era village where a lot of its buildings were preserved. In other words, this would be how the Ottoman empire looked like back then. There are over two hundred heritage structures here. It is almost like a museum village frozen in time. But the parallels end there. Because the place is still actively being lived in, somehow there weren’t a lot of signs pointing to the interesting spots. This is what greeted me when I arrived in the village.

Once you get past the main arrival area, there will be less vendors and people. I think this is where you can best appreciate the village. I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t really appreciate the village, since it just appears to be a village which wasn’t developed or modernized. Maybe the fact that this place was preserved all this time was enough to earn it a spot as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Despite this, I had to continue on and just see if there is anything else interesting here. There would be a few more modern structures but there will be ones which are obviously old.
