I spent the rest of the afternoon just randomly walking around the city center of Darmstadt. There were several heritage buildings but I wasn’t that impressed overall. I understand that like a lot of German cities, Darmstadt was also destroyed in the war and not all of the buildings were restored to how they were before. The result is Darmstadt doesn’t have as much of these older buildings compared to other cities. I eventually got tired of walking around and decided to call it a day. I wanted to go to the railway station in Darmstadt but I found out that it actually has two of them. Fortunately, both of them have trains going back to Frankfurt so I didn’t have to choose between the two.
The railway station is actually outside the city center which meant that I need to either walk or take the tram there. While I was actually at a major stop of the tram system, I didn’t know which one to take. I ended up just walking to the railway station which means just walking along the major artery of the city center. By the time I got there it was almost rush hour and the train station was packed. I wasn’t worried because I knew that there would be several trains going to Frankfurt since it is a major destination. I managed to find a train which goes there, then I just slept the rest of the way back.
