While the sun hasn’t fully risen above Sankt Goar, I decided to go up to the top of the hill behind the town. There is an old castle here and I thought it would be nice to have a look around. The road behind the town goes straight to the castle and it was easy enough to follow. It was rather steep but I can see the scenery getting better as the road goes up. In front of me, I can see that the castle was also looming large. It seems to be much larger than I thought I was excited to be able to visit it. But before that, there is a small stopover that I saw.
Just before the castle walls, I saw a small ridge which looks over the town and also the river. This spot seems to be called Alexanderplatz. There seems to be a viewing area of some sort here and you can see the area below you. It wasn’t super high but it was good enough to get an idea of how the town is. While the lighting is a little better now, I still need to wait a little more before it is truly morning here. There is also a marker here for some William Turner. The name is obviously not very German, and that would be correct. Joseph Mallord William Turner was an English Painter who came to this area and became known for his paintings of the landscape. I guess this spot at Alexanderplatz is one of the spots which he found. I don’t blame him.
