Going to Igreja Paroquial de Santa Maria de Lagos

It was unfortunate that I wasn’t with the entire group when I went to Ponta da Piedade. Still, I managed to see quite a few places including the incredibly beautiful cliffs which is famous in the entire country. There were different places to visit in Ponta da Piedade but I didn’t have enough to go to them all. Besides, most will involve quite a bit of walking and it would just take too much time. I also had to keep the time in mind because we have an appointment with the private van driver. He would be coming to pick everybody up and I the rest would go with me in the car.

This didn’t take too much time since Ponta da Piedade wasn’t that far away anyway. Within a few minutes I was back in town and it took me more time to find parking than traveling from Ponta da Piedade. My friends were waiting at the central square or plaza in the middle of town. This square is part of the Igreja Paroquial de Santa Maria de Lagos which is the main church in the town of Lagos. I was thinking that for a main church, this one didn’t seem to be that large. I have been to other towns in Portugal and their cathedrals and churches were massive. This doesn’t seem to be the case here. Apparently, the original main church was destroyed in an earthquake and Igreja Paroquial de Santa Maria de Lagos somehow survived. Because of this, the church moved operations to this other church. I don’t know if the original church was bigger but for me, it isn’t as large as I thought it would be.
