For me, the Church of the Assumption at the Portuguese City of Mazagan was a bit of a disappointment since I couldn’t get in. The view of the sea from the walls of the old city was a nice break. I was wondering if this was all there is to the city. The fortified city is very compact and it is easily explored on foot. I have heard that one of the places to see here is an old Portuguese Cistern. Confusingly, I couldn’t find where this place is. Google Maps was saying that it was right along the main street of the old city but I can’t find an entrance.
I went to the police which was nearby and asked for where the cistern is. They said it was next door but the door was closed. Turns out it was closed for some reason. The police said to just come back sometime later, I thought that they were just on a break and decided to close for a while. I went around the city for a while and true enough the door was actually open this time around. There was little indication of where the place is since there weren’t a lot of tourists here to kind of show you the way.
