Arriving at Sintra

I would be spending the day exploring the hilltop town of Sintra. I happened to run into some delightful travel companions from the Philippines so I don’t think it would be livelier going around. The train from Lisbon stops at the Sintra train station. I didn’t really notice but apparently we were already quite high up a hill. It was also noticeably cooler here, a relief from the sweltering heat I have been experiencing there these past few days. There are some shops so you might want to buy something warm in case you can’t handle the temperature. As I expected, there were a lot of people who disembarked here at Sintra, with the vast majority of them tourists.

See, one problem with Sintra is that there isn’t any convenient public transport available. There are companies here who offer tours of various places in Sintra so you don’t have to worry about parking and stuff like that. You can also hire a tuk-tuk of all things, to bring you around, the tuk-tuk is motorized so it should be able to handle any climbs. We went with the former. Actually they found us first, we were offered a package to go around Sintra as well as drop us off at the train station to head back to Lisbon. It sounded like a good deal since we would be going around in air-conditioned comfort. The tour guide, Antonio, was a very friendly fellow and we enjoyed his company the whole trip.
