Another few months have passed and I got another opportunity to travel once again. I consider this a privilege to be able to afford something like this. It also helps that these places relatively nearby. One thing I do not like about this are flight schedules. The flights leave quite early in the morning and I would be forced to spend the night somewhere nearby lest I won’t be able to make it. However, early flights also have their own perks, that is no time lost in traveling. By the time I get to the destination, I would be only late morning so I still have time in the afternoon to explore. My next destination is the beautiful country of Portugal.
It seems that there is a lot of buzz about this country lately and to be honest, I don’t really know much about it. Apart from a few historical figures. Anyway, I arrived in the capital city of Lisbon late morning. I proceeded to the car rental where I decided rent a car since I would need to go places which is not easily accessed by public transportation. After a long night trying to get some sleep, a couple of hours in the plane, I would have to immediately drive out to the country to get to where I want to go.
It took me a little getting used to driving on the left once again. It feels like it has been ages since I last did but I got the hang of it soon enough. I was soon on the highway driving towards the city of Alcobaça. It isn’t one of the main tourist destinations but there is a UNESCO World Heritage site here and I wanted to see it. However, by the time I got there, it was already past lunch time and I wanted to eat. I ended up at a place called Restaurante Garrafiera which served local food. I went for the very eye catching chicken Alcobaça, which is chicken stewed in a large pot. It certainly was eye catching but the pot was much larger than the dish. There was good amount of chicken in there but I wasn’t complaining. I am aware that Portugal is known for its wines but I was driving so I can’t drink, perhaps dinner?
