I unwittingly found myself on a hike across Inishmore of the Aran Islands. I thought about taking a tour bus instead but that time has long passed. I was probably already more than halfway across the island. It was a rather boring route since it was just a dirt road. I suspect that the interesting part is near the coast but they didn’t build a road there. I first saw signs of civilization in a village which seemed to be coming from nowhere. This is no mirage. I found that this village marks one of the major stopovers of the tour around Inishmore.
There was a lively area which seemed very touristy. There were pubs and souvenirs shops no doubt to cater to the tourists who pass through the village. The main attraction is still further ahead. At this point, one needs to purchase a ticket to enter the site. I thought that we would be right there after I purchased the ticket but visitors will needed to traverse a rocky path to get to the actual site. I assume that the path wasn’t paved was to preserve the site itself. Having said that, I think it is still not that safe to walk here without being careful to twist your foot. You can see the stream of people making their way up the hill.
