Model of Malbork Castle
I arrvied at the town of Malbork which is two hours train north of Warsaw. I actually wasn’t sure if I would be making it all the way here but since I had a free day, I thought I might as well come here. Malbork town is known for the presence of Malbork Castle which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is some distance away from the train station and there weren’t a lot of signs here pointing the way to the castle. Fortunately, I got the directions to the castle from Google Maps. It is such a convenience to be able to know exactly where you need to go.
Entering Malbork Castle
Malbork Castle is billed as the largest castle by land area. I was thinking that I would have a lot of walking to do if that was really the case. I never heard of this place but that is what is so interesting about travel. The official title of the UNESCO site is the Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork. I had to look up what Teutonic meant, apparently they are a German Catholic crusaders. And this is the castle they built here. It is quite old having been built in the 13th century. From the looks of this place, it seems to be in very good shape. Perhaps it has undergone years of improvements to make sure everything is okay.
