Irish High Cross at the Rock of Cashel
I was under the impression that I would be able to see a lot of artifacts here. In fact, I was surprised that I only saw the ruins. I’m not saying that the ruins weren’t interesting, in fact it is quite the opposite. However, I was also hoping to be able to see what was originally there. There was the odd enclosure at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral which contains what remains of the old frescoes at the cathedral. There was also Cormac’s Chapel, which also has what remains of the old frescoes. However, these were few and far in between. Most of the stuff seen here were ruins.
More Artifacts Recovered from the Rock of Cashel
As I was heading out, there was a structure here near the entrance which has an exhibit of artifacts which have been recovered from the sight. I believe these were the things I was looking for. The artifacts were presumably brought in here to protect them from the elements, which Ireland has a lot of. Perhaps most prominently displayed here is a high cross which lost its arms. There are also what appears to be parts of what one would see in a church wall. There were interesting sculpture here which gives you an idea of how magnificent the cathedral must have been. It is a pity that not more was recovered here, surely it would have been an amazing sight.
