Coming all the way to Bunratty just to see a castle may not be the best way to spend your time. The castle is indeed very well kept and it is worth visiting but to make sure you get your money’s worth coming all the way here, make sure you visit the Bunratty Folk Park. The Bunratty Folk Park feels more like an add on to the Bunratty Castle attraction but I thought it was done quite well. There are several farmhouses here which showcase how the Irish lived back them. I think it was quite accurate since there was surely a castle nearby which the farmhouses of common folk surround it. I don’t really know how busy Bunratty was back in the day but maybe the folk park might be a good approximation.
It has the vibe of a farming community. There were animals roaming around the village some more freely than others. There were people dressed in period costumes depending on their role. Some were dressed as farmers others were dressed for the castle. There was also a musician who played traditional Irish music. I never really knew what Irish music was before but when I first heard it, it sounded more like old country music. I actually find the music nice and fun. It is nice that this kind of music is still appreciated in the world.
