It seems that you can’t really walk very far and not find something interesting in New York City. Not too far from the Chrysler Building, I came upon another New York City landmark. This time it is related to transportation and what better landmark than a railway station. The Grand Central Terminal as the name implies is a large central station for the New York subway as well as the New York railway lines. For a city as large and as bus as New York city, it would need a very efficient mass transit system to bring people around. Just having cars won’t cut it since land is so limited and traffic will just come to a standstill if everyone drove. So far, I haven’t seen the New York traffic, which I supposed means that the transit system works.
The station has its roots from 1871 where a station also once stood. In the early 1900s the modern station began to take shape and a massive terminal for the trains serving the city. Over the years, there have been expansions to the terminal but it has largely remained the same. It is used by almost a hundred million passengers a year. That is an incredible capacity for a transportation hub probably in line with some airport terminals. As you might expect, the area around Grand Central Terminal is very busy, but I will still take a look.
