Climbing Up to the Park Güell

When I was told that were going to visit this Park Güell, I was under the impression that this was just a public park. I was surprised to know that this was a park which was built on top of a hill in Barcelona. The hill here has a bit of height which made it a prime location to build a residential estate. This was the idea of Eusebi Güell who commissioned Antoni Gaudí to design the park. I probably would agree that this would have made a very good location for the rich, but it seemed that it didn’t really take off. Eusebi Güell, a count, even tried to stay there in the hope of increasing its prestige but it didn’t work. I guess, I can’t blame them, it took us a while to climb to the top of the hill where the park is. And I suppose that back then there weren’t any outdoor escalators for residents to use.

I wasn’t exactly enamored when we reached the park. It didn’t seem to be that well maintained, at least from the outside. There were signs the posted by locals proclaiming that Park Güell should be a public park. At this point, I knew that at least some part of the park is open only to ticket holders. However, there was still more to climb. The path was going around the hill and hopefull to the park itself. From here we can already see the view of Barcelona from the hill. It was an okay view since the hill wasn’t really that high. The visitors here were trying to find where the highest point is in the hope of getting a good view of Barcelona. The park, it seems is still a ways off, I hope this is not all there is to the park.
