Hallway into the Alcazar de Segovia

The Alcazar de Segovia is one of the prettiest castles I have seen so far. Granted that I have seen only a handful of these castles. I think it is really one of the better ones, especially after finding out that the alcazar of one of the inspirations for one of the Disneyland castles. This castle has its roots in an original Roman fort. Not much is known about this fort other than it existed. When the Moors swept Spain conquered large parts of it. This fort was reused by the Moors and then by the Spanish when they took back Segovia. Along the way, it has acquired different designs most especially that of the moors which makes it quite unique when it comes to European castle design.

Inside the castle grounds is a small courtyard. There wasn’t much here other than a small fountain and the entrance into the castle building. It looks like I would have explore this part of the castle first. It is possible to climb to the upper deck of the castle but that would have to come later. I was a bit disappointed in this area hopefully the other parts will be better.
