It was a pretty sight to see the Church of Ireland sit right next to the Donegal Castle. This seemed like a natural center for the town since the castle its most recognizable landmark. The Church of Ireland in Donegal seems to be built of similar materials as the Donegal castle. That might be only on the outside, perhaps to keep with the look of the area. Inside of the church might be a totally different thing. This is the second Church of Ireland that I have been to and it still looks the same. The church uses common design aesthetics. Probably to let it be more recognizable, you have to keep building it exactly the same as the others. Anyway, another feature which I found strange what the there is no front entrance. In other churches I have been to you would usually enter in front or at least near it. This church has the entrance at the side and it is quite inconspicuous. Or maybe that was the point.
The side entrance was open so we helped ourselves in. The interior of the church was bright though less fancy than a Catholic church. There is a certain elegance in the interior where it makes use of arches in side. There were two rows of pews for services and there was none when I visited. We quietly took photos while admiring the church. There is probably an office upstairs but we didn’t go up anymore. We wanted to continue with our touring, this was a nice stop since it was already along the way.
