Ancient Town afficionados will have a field day here in Lijiang, as one of China’s most well known ancient towns, this is certainly a place worth visiting. Unfortunately, thousands of other Chinese tourists will most likely be there as well at any given time. Nevertheless, this should not deter you from visiting this place. If you leave your hostel early enough in the day, you could have the entire town practically to yourself. Unfortunately for me, I am not a morning person, so this is something I would not be able to appreciate.
The vastness of Lijiang Ancient Town also allows you have certain parts of the town to yourself. You can try to stay off the major streets in the town and you would more often than not find yourself alone here. Most of the shops are along the major alleys so it should not be difficult to figure out which ones. Nice photographs of the town can be taken minus the crowd. Sometimes it would be jarring to be suddenly thrust back to the main crowd when just around the corner there weren’t even any people there.
