Exploring Berlayer Creek

Ultimately, I am not the best person to be writing about a nature walk. Berlayer Creek is a unique place in the urban jungle that is Singapore. It is one of the few mangrove areas in this part of the island and for this it was deemed to be in need of protection. There is a nice elevated wooden walkway which goes the length of the creek. The walkway is covered by trees, so it is pleasant to walk here even though the sun was high up. This doesn’t protect visitors from the frequent storms which visit the area as I found out several posts ago.

To properly visit this place one would probably need binoculars. As I was walking, I saw this family with the said binoculars and they were pointing out to me that there was a snake there. Me without the binoculars couldn’t see anything so I would just have to take their word for it. Mangroves are a unique ecosystem where all sorts of animals thrive. I even saw a squirrel here but as you might expect, they are easily startled and ran off as soon as they saw me. I just know that they are somewhere in there. As for the plant life, I’m no expert in identifying plants either but I do know that mangroves grow here because you can see them clearly. The Berlayer Creek eventually empties out into the sea where the rest of my walk continues.
