One of the places which I haven’t been to in Singapore is Labrador Park. I can’t remember why but there doesn’t seem to be any compelling reason for me to go there. For a change, I decided to go there just see what is here but I somehow got lost and ended up somewhere else. That somewhere else is Berlayer Creek. Althought the creek name may be a little offputting, it really is an interesting place. There is a small area where mangroves grow. I was actually surprised to see them here since Singapore doesn’t have too many of these places. Because these places are not common in Singapore, it was deemed to be in need of protection.
However, to allow visitors to experience mangroves in Singapore, they built an elevated walkway so people can go through the place without disturbing the land. I thought it was a unique location here in Singapore. You can always build fancy gardens here but this one is all natural. I don’t expect the walk to be long but I was taking my time to go through it. However, it seems like I took a bit too much time and the rains started to fall – really fall. I initially thought that it was only going to be a passing shower, but I forgot how intense these showers can be and despite my best efforts to keep dry, I realized that this was an impossible task. There was no shelter in the entire length of the walkway. I tried hiding under some very large leaves but no joy. I had to call the visit quits since I was soaked. I had to dry myself at the nearest MRT station before heading to the mall to get a new set of clothes. Well, I do need a change in wardrobe anyway.
