For long time readers of this blog, you would know that I don’t normally feature companies. This blog isn’t popular enough to get a sponsorship anyway. However, sometimes I would something that I think would be worth mentioning in the blog. More often than not, it is because of architecture rather than the actual product. In this case, I stumbled into the Apple Marina Bay Sands shop. As you might know, Apple has a few iconic shops all over the world. I actually have never been to a single one of them before and the one at the Marina Bay Sands would be the first one.
From the outside, I didn’t even know what company it was, thought it looked like it was a phone shop, why I never occurred to me that it could be an Apple shop is anyone’s guess. The shop itself is out on the water. The structure can be imagined as a half submerged fully glazed sphere. In the day, it is very reflective but at night, you can see inside and tell that it is a shop. It can be accessed through a narrow bridge which also happens to give great views of the Marina Bay Area while you’re making your way to the shop.
The shop is much larger than you would think. The roof is quite high and it forms patterns of overlapping concentric rings, most probably to keep most of the sunlight away. But as anyone who has been to any Apple shop, would be very familiar with the layout. I wasn’t in the market for a phone but I spent some time just walking around the shop and peeking out to have a look at the view. I would argue that this Apple shop has probably one of the best views among all their stores.
