It was finally time to leave western Austria. Although I had a general idea of what I would be seeing here. I think I was still very much surprised with my visit. I visited in December, which isn’t exactly the best time to visit here but I think that is all subjective. There is a different kind of scenery to see here in winter and I somehow managed to get it. I had an initial disappointment when I found out that there was heavy snowfall just days before my arrival but it turns out that this is exactly what I needed. The skies were generally clear for the earlier part of my stay, then it turned wintry in the later half. You could say I got the best of both.
I initially thought that I should just go in the main airport of Austria which is in Vienna and start from there, but a friend of mine convinced me to visit the Salzburg area. This led me to start from Salzburg and proceeded to explore the area. I know I only skimmed the surface of what Austria has to offer but I liked it a lot. I think I would be able to cover a lot more if I had my own transportation but maybe that is something for next time. Salzburg Airport Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is the airport I will be departing from. It is the second largest airport in the country after the main airport in Vienna. Having said that, this airport doesn’t feel like it is the second largest airport in the country. It is small and it sometimes even feels like it is just a makeshift airport. The waiting area for departures looks like a hangar and it feels very basic. There are still the common facilities like shopping and even a little cafe. I think the local population doesn’t warrant a much larger one. It is a shame since you could consider to Salzburg to be one of the more well known cities in Europe.
