Lunch at Gasthaus zur Stiege

It was basically snow day for me, except that I can’t just stay in the hotel. To be fair, I didn’t check what the weather would be in Werfen and I assumed that it would be similar to what Salzburg had that morning. I came across a town buried in snow, but not so deep that I won’t be able to walk around. I still managed to get to the Sound of Music film location but it wasn’t easy. I still tried to see if I can catch a glimpse of the famed scenery here but to no avail. The snow wasn’t letting up and visibility wasn’t very good.

I head down the hill, this time walking even slower that I did going up. I was terrified of losing my footing in the snow that I was thinking walking slower would help reduce the risk. I managed to get back to the town in one piece but by that time it was already lunch time. Werfen wasn’t exactly a very busy place when I went there in winter so I was worried that I might not find a place to eat. I quickly managed to find this place called Gasthaus zur Stiege. It seems to be a fancy restaurant and I was actually surprised to see them open in this weather.

I was still thankful that they were open since it was nice and warm inside. I was also not surprised to see that the family that I met on the way up the hill was also there. I guess this really was the only place open at the time. I got myself a nice stewed leg of lamb. Unfortunately, my photo wasn’t very good since my lens fogged up. It was nice and tender and I thought it was a perfect meal in this snow day. There were also other customers that day who didn’t seem to be tourists. So at least I know that locals also come here.
