The town of Werfen is just a short train ride south of the city of Salzburg. Although, these days Werfen is probably best known for being a film location for the Sound of Music, there are multiple places to visit here. Unfortunately, it seems like winter isn’t exactly the best time to come here. At the time of my visit, there was heavy snowfall and the town is covered in the stuff. While the roads are generally free of ice, I should still be careful walking here lest I lose my footing and slip. With not too many people out in the frigid weather, I don’t know how long before I will be found if something happened to me.
Brushing aside those negative thoughts, I focused on getting some photos of the town. The main street of the town also happens to be along the way to the film location. It isn’t particularly long though. One of the main landmarks here along this stretch is the Werfen Church. I don’t have much information about the church but this one seems to have been built in the early eighteenth century. I thought this was a bit of a surprise since the prince archbishops would come visit every now and then and I thought they would have bigger church because of this. Anyway, the church itself was open and again, I was the only one visiting. It had almost the feel of an abandoned place since there were hardly any people along the way. However, there were some lights turned on which told me that the church is in active use.
