Saint Blasius’ Church in Salzburg

I spent much of the day visiting some of the important sites here in the historic center of the city of Salzburg. I have visited some of the important ones the previous day, and I was just finishing up this morning. That left me we nothing on my agenda for the rest of the day. I know that Salzburg is more than just those places but since I have more time than I normally have, I decided to not pack my itinerary for a change. The city center is very nice to walk around in. It essentially follows the nearby river Salzach around which the city was build around. The old town was built on the southern bank of the river.

I decided to walk the length of the old town and see what is there. I can see that it is much less busy the further away I get from the center. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to see here. I chanced upon a small church in between some buildings. I thought that it was a bit odd to see one here but it turns out that this one is also a heritage building. Saint Blasius Church is a little old gem of a church which apparently dates back at least 1460. There was an older church built here when the archbishop built a hospital here. Eventually, the newer church was built here which is the structure we see today. I couldn’t tell if it is was open for visitors since the door was closed.
