The Salzburg Cathedral is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing of the Historic Center of the City of Salzburg. It is one of the most prominent buildings in the city center and looking at it certainly will make you agree that it is a heritage site. It is a curious building as well since from the outside it looks like a baroque church but upon stepping inside, you will be greeted by a Romanesque interior with all the signature design elements of the architectural style. For a project this large, it is probably inevitable that building plans for the cathedral would be modified over the years.

The interior of the cathedral is largely consistent with a Romanesque church. There are round arches which are typical of this style. At the center of the cathedral is of course the altar. There are various styles when it comes to altars and in this case, the cathedral uses a painting as the centerpiece of the altar. If you look around, you can see that the paintings around the church tell the story of Christ. The altar shows the scene of the resurrection of Christ. You could say that the entire church is a work of art in itself. It is richly designed and obviously meant to impress. I guess it should not be a surprise since this is where the archbishops would be celebrating mass.
