I would like to say that I managed to visit the most important landmarks in Salzburg the day I arrived, that isn’t exactly true. The Salzburg Cathedral is one of them most prominent landmarks in the city and like the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the Salzburg Cathedral also dominates the Salzburg skyline. The previous day, I visited the Salzburg Residenz which was the residence of the prince archbishop of Salzburg. What I didn’t know was that the visit also included a visit to a museum which is housed in the Salzburg Cathedral. The visit was mostly seamless since there was a walkway from the residence to the cathedral without the need for visitors to go out.
However, this also meant that the visit was also limited to just the museum. After the tour, I found myself outside the cathedral and realizing that I never really got to see much of the actual cathedral. I knew that I have a few days here in Salzburg and I have time to take it a little easy and not to try to visit everything all in one day. The city center isn’t that massive and it is easy to explore. After visit the birthplace of Mozart and some lunch, I found myself outside the cathedral again. It seems that it is time to actually have a look at the structure.
