Statue on Display at the Hohensalzburg Fortress
The Hohensalzburg Fortress is one of the most important landmarks in the historic center of Salzburg. It is rather hard to ignore since it is probably the largest single structure in the entire city. Perhaps emphasizing its importance, it is also built on top of a hill which make it very prominent when approaching the city. It is considered as one of the largest castles in the world as it almost totally occupies the entire hill. The walls are very high which makes it quite effective as far as fortresses go. Having said that, its primary use as a fortress was hardly ever needed.
Cannon on Display at the Hohensalzburg Fortress
These days, the fortress has been turned into a museum. Like a lot of fortresses/castles, a lot of their rooms have been opened to the public. The most important ones here at the Hohensalzburg Fortress is at the third level where the most impressive rooms where. However, that is a not the only thing you can see here. As I quickly walked around the fortress and saw that there are random displays here like a statue of a medieval soldier. There are even weapons on display here. I would think that these were used after the archbishop wasn’t using the fortress anymore. Then again, it probably won’t be a surprise if they did have soldiers and weapons in the premises at that time.
