Golden Chamber at the Hohensalzburg Fortress

The third level of the Hohensalzburg Fortress seems to be the most significant area of the entire fortress. This where the residence of the archbishop is. There is a decorated Golden Hall with leads to two of the inner chambers of the archbishop. The bed chamber is one which is richly decorated not unlike rooms which I have seen in other European palaces. The design of the room is a little old but you can tell that it was meant to be luxurious. There is another room here which is probably the most elaborately decorated room in the entire fortress.

The Golden Chamber is exactly as the name implies. The room is richly decorated following designs of the hall and the bed chamber but still upped another level. I don’t know how anyone can sleep in these kinds of places but it seems people in power like this kind of thing. I understand that not everything here was preserved. Some parts of the design of the room have worn off. It is said that the bare wooden walls used to be covered in some kind of leather cover but it has since rotted away. It is a shame since it would be interesting to see how it looked like back then.
