Outside the Salzburg Cathedral

I think I have spent more than enough time in the museums here at the Salzburg Residenz and the Salzburg Cathedral. The visit to a museum at the cathedral was a bonus since I didn’t expect the visit to be included. While I fully intended to visit the cathedral anyway, it seems that my itinerary needed to be changed a little. I eventually made my way out of the cathedral museum and soon found myself out in the Domplatz, one of the three squares which surrounded the Salzburg Cathedral. I realized that I haven’t taken a photo of the Salzburg Cathedral.

The cathedral is officially called the Cathedral of Saints Rupert and Virgilius. It is a typical baroque cathedral and it was more elegant than imposing though the building is quite large. The current structure was completed in 1628 although there have been previous churches and cathedrals on this site. I was trying to get a good angle for the photo but I realized that it was very difficult since there was a Christmas market in the way. I don’t think there is any avoiding this now since the market is right in front of the cathedral. I can also see that the lights are starting to come on in the market which means that I need to get a move on before it gets dark.
