I was following the set track in Salzburg Residenz for tourists to follow when suddenly I found myself outside of the palace walls. I thought it was a mistake but it seems that visitors are meant to continue on the walkway connecting the archbishop’s palace to the Salzburg Cathedral which is just right next to the palace. Obviously, the walkway was meant to give a convenient way for the archbishop to go from his residence to the cathedral without having to go down and in to the cathedral. By following the walkway, visitors and the archbishop would end up at the Grand Organ Loft which overlooks the congregation. However, the trail continues on inside the cathedral, maybe that really was the end of the archbishop’s residence visit?
The path eventually leads us to another part of the cathedral which has a lot more religious themed objects. It seems that there is another museum here and the ticket I got included a visit to the Salzburg Cathedral Museum. I wasn’t really aware of this when I purchased the ticket so I guess this was welcome bonus for me. I know that when I was visiting the Salzburg Residenz, most of the things that was on display were basically the rooms and some small items like clocks. There was also an entire section dedicated for painting but surprisingly, there wasn’t a lot of religious theme objects which you might expect considering that this used to be the residence of the archbishop. Although, I have an idea of what I would see here, I don’t think there is any harm looking around either.
