Crossing the Salzach

Ever since I got the chance to explore Europe, I have learned to enjoy riding trains. Yes, they can be slower than flying but at least you don’t have to go to the airport two hours before, you also don’t have to go through security and essentially be treated like a criminal. Fortunately, continental Europe is very well connected by trains which makes it a great choice for short to mid distance travel. I was making may way from Innsbruck to the city of Salzburg and the train ride was very comfortable. Fortunately, trains here are not packed like what you would see in Asia. I got back to the Salzburg Railway Station in good time and it gave me time to go to the hotel to check in.

The hotel was a bus ride away from the railway station and at the same time it was also another bus ride away to the old town. After checking in the hotel and leaving my larger backpack. I head out immediately. Unlike Hallstatt and Innsbruck, I allocated a bit more time for Salzburg so I think I have a bit of time to spare. I know I was already taking my time this trip but I think I would have even more time here in Salzburg.

The bus actually didn’t drop me off at the old city itself but rather outside the old city. There was a bridge to cross the River Salzach to get to the old city. I noticed that the River Salzach is quite clean. Which I think I can say for several of the rivers that I have seen here in Austria. I know that the country has very good river management systems but I think the fact that there is a lot of clean water flowing from the mountains and into the river helps a lot. The Salzach river eventually joins up with the River Inn which I saw in the city of Innsbruck. The River Inn in turn then merges with the Danube which is the second longest river in Europe.
