It is my final night in the city of Innsbruck. I must say that I have enjoyed this city more than I expected. I came here without much of a plan and I was just playing almost everything by ear. I managed visit their old town and even go to the top of the nearby Nordkette mountains. All this in what is probably one of the loveliest cities that I have ever visited. I know, I can’t help but stare at the snow capped mountains whenever they come into view.
Historically, Innsbruck was also surprisingly important. It used to be a capital of the Holy Roman Empire because of Emperor Maximilian I. As part of being an imperial capital, the city also has an imperial palace as well as a one of the most beautiful baroque cathedral I have ever seen. More recently though, Innsbruck is also known as the home of Swarovski. Yes, that Swarovski. Technically, they are based in nearby Wattens but they have a store here in Innsbruck.
Swarovski actually has a tourist attraction called the Swarovski Crystal World or Swarovski Kirstallwelten but I never got the chance to visit it. I know have been to multiple shops in various places around the world, each time walking out empty handed, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to have a look in the main store here in Innsbruck. Now, I don’t know if anyone can tell from my posts but I’m not one for jewelry. However, I can still appreciate the products that Swarovski makes. The glass crystals are shaped into various objects and I think they are really very attractive. It helps that they also know how to display these kinds of things. The shop here in Innsbruck is more like a celebration of Swarovski. There are art pieces near the entrance of the store. Further in, there is a two story crystal chandelier. And before you think that it is all just limited to the store, the Christmas market by the river Inn has a Christmas tree decorated by Swarovski crystals.
Like any other visit, I once again, walked out empty handed. Unless I strike it rich, I don’t think I would even get to own any of their products. I still find them very attractive and I can understand why people desire them. Much as I wanted to take photos of their actual products, I refrained from doing so, I thought it would be frowned upon, lest I get kicked out. Still it was fun for me to be able to visit what I would think to be the store closest to where it all started. Truly Innsbruck has much more to offer than meets the eye.
