The Innsbruck Cathedral or the Dom Saint Jakob is one of the most important structures in the city of Innsbruck. The baroque church sit right next to the Hofburg Innsbruck which is the imperial palace in the city. For something which is beside the imperial palace, this place needs to be nice. From the outside, the cathedral didn’t seem to be that inspiring, however this all changed when I entered the church. The interior of the cathedral is one of the most impressive I have seen in a while. Baroque style tends to use sculptures and paintings and the cathedral is no different. Unlike gothic churches, this baroque church is better lit and it makes it easier to see the beauty of the cathedral.
Like a lot of cathedrals, the edges of the Innsbruck cathedral are lined with smaller chapels. There are several of them inside the cathedral and each of them are as impressive as the next one. I didn’t really pay to much attention to whom the chapels were dedicated to. All I knew was that it looks nice. Just walking around the church will make you think that this place is a real work of art. I know that this should be typical of baroque churches but I think it has been years since I have been to a baroque church of this beauty.
