I was massively disappointing when I visited the Hofburg Innsbruck or the imperial palace found in the city of Innsbruck. It wasn’t because the place was ugly or wasn’t well maintained but it is more because photographs are not allowed inside the imperial palace. You might think that you might be able to sneak in a few photos but it will be a challenge because they have staff everywhere. My camera makes an audible snapping sound, making stealth photographs very difficult. I don’t know what will they do to you if they catch you taking photos but I don’t want to find out. Since I can’t really take any photographs of the imperial palace, I just quickly made my way through the palace and back out. I think I would have better use of my photography time before the sun goes down.
Not too far away from the imperial palace is the Innsbruck Cathedral. The cathedral is also known as Dom St. Jakob or the Cathedral of Saint James, the son of Zebedee. It is not uncommon to see a palace and a cathedral right next to each other. Back then, the church had a lot of power and kings and emperors would like to associate themselves with this power. What better way than to build these structures side by side. The Innsbruck Cathedral is a baroque cathedral and it is one of the most important structures in the city.
