As I was going around the fascinating Alpenzoo, I have seen all sorts of animals that call this region home. So far, I have seen creatures which walk or fly. It was then I realized that I haven’t seen any fish. Towards the end of the trail, there was a dedicated aquarium for local fish. With a structure as small as what they have here, I don’t expect a full blown glass tunnel experience like you would see in other zoos. Instead what you have here are several large tanks filled with fish from the region.
I wasn’t expecting a lot here so I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have some very large fish. All of the fish here are freshwater so they don’t really grow that large compared to their seafaring cousins. Some of the more impressive fish here is the pike which is a few feet in size. There is also the carp which can also grow quite large. There are smaller fish here but I didn’t think they were as interesting at the larger ones. The aquarium is housed indoor but the tanks are lit individually, helping visitors see the fish better.
