Animals at the Alpenzoo

I know zoos can be quite controversial because of animal rights but I won’t want to get in to that in this post. I was visiting what is claimed to be the only alpine zoo in the world. The animals here in the zoo are ones which can be found in the Alps and thus quite unique as far as zoos are concerned. I didn’t have high hopes for this visit since I already know that this zoo won’t have any of the popular animals that can be seen in other zoos. I guess I would be happy enough if I can see some of the larger ones. Worst case here is that they might have small birds and fish on display.

The zoo turned out to be more open than I expected. There were large enclosures which allow the animals more freedom of movement. As expected, there were a lot of exhibits of smaller birds which were okay but not really that inspiring. A lot of these exhibits were like that but there were slightly large animals on display here like mountain goats and even a lynx, both of which happened to sit near the front of the enclosure where visitors can see them better. I felt bad because I didn’t bring my long lens to help get closer to the animals but if they were already right in front of me, I should not have any problem taking photos of them.
