I think I spent a lot more time at the top of the Hafelekar more than I expected. I know the view of Innsbruck was great and it was awesome to see the rest of the area. I can see that this area is mountainous and there were numerous other snow covered mountains in the area. This is the Austrian Alps for you. Eventually, I had to start to head back. This was actually the main reason why I wasn’t in a hurry to go down that hill. It was hard enough to go up to the peak wearing only running shoes. The slope was slippery and it was very hard to get a grip with my shoes. Now I need to figure out how to go down.
One might think going up would be easier than going down, that might be true in certain situations but in this case because the slope is slippery, one slip could send you sliding all the way down. Now, I haven’t seen anyone slip all the way down but I sure don’t want to be the first. I slowly made my way down the hill. I managed to get myself down to what is a level area midway. I was trying to figure out the best way to go down the hill when I was told to get out of the way. There was this two persons preparing to run and jump off the mountain to paraglide. It sure looks fun but at the moment I was in their way. It was easy for them to tell me to get out of the way but I don’t have the same footwear they have and I had to slowly get out of the way. Until they finally ran and jumped.
I didn’t really care what happened to them but I was just glad that they weren’t there anymore. An older gentleman help point out where I should be walking. He was the same guy who helped me on the way up. It seems he has already gone up and down three times while I was just hanging out at the top. I did manage to get to the spot where he pointed me and it was finally time to make my way to the last leg of the trail. It wasn’t long at all but it sure looked steep and slippery. I decided that I won’t bother trying to figure out how to get down safely and just sat on a deep trail and just slid down. Hey, that wasn’t so bad. I used my jacket to sit on just in case there were any rocks below the snow but it seems that it was the easiest and fastest way to get down in case you weren’t surefooted. I was more than glad that I made it down in one piece.
