At what is dubbed the Top of Innsbruck is Hafelekar. This is at the very end of the funicular tracks which go all the way up the Nordkette mountains just behind the city of Innsbruck. A lot of people come up here to snowboard or ski but not me. I was only here to take photos. I can see how there are multiple locations where people can ski or snowboard. So now that I am here at the top what can I do? The snow at the top is quite thick. Although there sky was perfectly clear, there was snow the previous days and it still hasn’t melted away. I thought it was not as cold as I expected but with this amount of ice, I don’t think it will melt that quickly either.
To the right of the funicular station is a hill where I see a faint trail. It seems like people would make there way up this hill and then proceed further up for a higher view point. I thought, why not. Unfortunately, this was much easier said than done. There is a lot of snow here making it difficult to walk. Additionally, my shoes weren’t exactly made for walking up a mountains or one covered in snow either. Finally, since it wasn’t that cold, the snow has melted but also kept frozen by the rest of the ice here, this resulted in a slippery slope. I had to follow tracks made by the others and pray that they made the correct choice in the path to go up the hill. Parts of the trail were quite steep that I had to try to grab on to the snow just to keep my footing. Needless to say this wasn’t an easy climb for me.
