I was excited to find out that there is a snow capped mountain just north of the city of Innsbruck. It really helped with the image of Innsbruck since this kind of scenery isn’t very common. What’s even better is that they developed the mountain and it is possible to go to the top of the mountain. Not everyone who goes up to the mountain is there to sight see. Parts of the mountain have been developed for snow sports. I belong to the former group. Lacking any ability in any snow sport, or any sport for that matter, I can only take photos. I think snow sports are a little too exciting for me.
To go to the top of the Nordkette mountains, visitors need to take three separate funiculars. I actually almost forgot that I needed to transfer two times because I was distracted by the beautiful view. I could have missed on an even better view. The final funicular track is even steeper and the city of Innsbruck below goes even further away. At the top of the trackway is the Hafelekar Funicular Station. By the time I got there, there were already people up there. Strangely enough, I didn’t think it was that cold. Maybe the clear skies were making me feel warmer than I was supposed to be. This wasn’t exactly the summit but it is close. I can see that if one would want to go to an actual summit, they should be able to start here.
