Going Up the Nordkette

I was very excited to ride another funicular up a mountain. This area of Austria is part of the Alps and as you might expect, it is mountainous. A lot of these mountains have been developed into tourist attractions, in particular, there are a number of ski resorts here. I’m not a very sporty type, nor do I even know how to ski. However, I also know that going up a mountain is also a chance to appreciate the view of the area. This made even better by the fact that the Nordkette mountains which is nearest the city of Innsbruck is covered in snow. It wasn’t snowing at the moment but there was snow not too long ago. I was winter and I think it takes some time for the snow to melt away.

The easiest way to go up the Nordkette mountains is to take the funicular. However, there isn’t just one single funicular to go up the mountain, the mountain is actually much too high for that, instead, there are three lines one must ride to go all the way to the top. There are interesting spots along the way so people can stop and have a look while making their way to the top of the mountain. I am glad they have this funicular service else I can’t imagine how it would be possible to go all the way to the top. It must have been a incredible feat of engineering to be able to build all the way to the top with all the material needed to construct all these.
