Going to the Town Tower in Innsbruck

I finally checked in the Meininger Hotel Innsbruck Zentrum where I would spend two nights at. I spent most of that afternoon walking around and I thought that it should be enough for the old town as least for that afternoon so I decided to get a little rest. I have been walking the whole afternoon so I think I deserve this. There was also another reason why I didn’t head back out immediately, I was waiting for it to get a little dark. While I was walking around the old town of Innsbruck, I saw the town tower and realized that it is possible to go to the top. However, I wanted to go up there just before sundown so I can get a photo before and after sundown.

When I got out of the hotel, the sun was starting to go down and I think it was perfect. By the time I got to the tower I saw that the town tower was about to close. At least, the entrance was about to close. It didn’t seem that people would get stuck in the tower once the entrance closes which is perfect. That way I can take my sweet time taking photos from the top of the tower. The tower seems to be one of the taller structures at least in the vicinity. To go up the tower, one would need to go up a set of dual spiral staircases, yes, not unlike DNA.

This is rather unique since most old towers would have just a single set of spiral staircases to go up the tower. If you have ever gone up a spiral staircase, then you might have experience the problem of people coming the other way. The nature of spiral staircases is one end of each step of the staircase will always be much narrower and it is always a battle to see who will end up in the narrower end of the step. The dual spiral staircase was meant to support the traffic going up and down the tower. One set will be used to go up the tower. Another set will be used to go down the tower.
